Raf Grassetti, best known for his work on the God of War series at Sony's Santa Monica Studio, has returned to PlayStation.
After his work as art director on God of War Ragnarok, Grassetti left the team for a new role at Netflix, where he worked on an unknown new AAA IP for about 17 months.
Now, he's back under Sony's umbrella, having begun a new position as Naughty Dog's art director.
The news comes via Grassetti's social media in a brief post:
There's no other information to go along with this, but obviously, he'll now be working on whatever the studio is cooking up after its The Last of Us multiplayer game was canned.
Little is known about Naughty Dog's next project, but it'll supposedly have more of an emphasis on player freedom, and will star gaming's most prolific actor, Troy Baker.
The art direction and character designs found in God of War 2018 and Ragnarok are excellent, so we have high hopes for Grassetti's work at Naughty Dog. Here's hoping we get to see some of his handiwork in the near future.
Stephen has been part of the Push Square team for over six years, bringing boundless enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of video games to his role as Assistant Editor. Having grown up playing every PlayStation console to date, he's developed an eclectic taste, with particular passion for indie games, arcade racers, and puzzlers. He's also our go-to guy for Sonic-related matters, much to his delight/chagrin.
I wonder if ND will manage to make their next game as polished as TLOU2 if it's larger and more open? Something like that without crunch must take a decade to develop.
Abby's arms will go full God mode in the Last of Us 3.
Good to see great artists return.
Happy he's back home, working Sony's best studio this time, but his artwork prolly won't shine until after ND's next game.
Welcome home boy!
@FutilityInExcellence I don't think we'll get a new Naughty Dog game this gen.
He is fantastic with fantasy and armors and stuff… maybe this is a little weight in the «new
