Codemasters and EA Sports have announced that F1 23 will release on 16th June 2023, the latest entry in this yearly motorsports franchise seeing the return of the Braking Point story mode, and getting even more authentic with the inclusion of red flags, and more.
F1 23 is still a cross-gen release, coming out for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Braking Point will pick up after the F1 2021 original story, with that game’s young rookie protagonist, Aiden Jackson, now teammates with mischievous racing butthead Devon Butler, both racing at the new team Konnersport Racing Team. They’re racing to keep their seats with Devon’s sister, Callie Mayer, the first woman to win the F2 championship and looking for her shot in Formula 1.
For the rest of the game, there will be familiar racing foundations, though Codies promise improved handling for both wheel and pad. There’s new vehicle physics for braking, acceleration and cornering (so basically every part of driving), while aero and tyre grip should both feel more realistic. Precision Drive controller tech should give pad players more control in tight situations.
They’re also answering some big fan requests. Red flags will be incorporated, throwing more variables into a race for you to handle and strategise around, there’s also a new 35% race distance (previously featured in esports) which should be a good balance between length and accessibility, and there’s a new colour enconding system to look close to the real broadcasts.
New tracks in Las Vegas, USA and Losail, Qatar will be featured in the game, while Circuit Paul Ricard, Shanghai International Circuit, and the Algarve International Circuit (AKA Portimão) will still be included as legacy tracks.
It’s all wrapped up in F1
