World of Warships Brings Back Longest Night of Museums Event With Virtual Tours and Streams This Week
World of Warships is bringing back its Longest Night of Museums for the third year. This year’s event will take place over two days this week, to showcase and help preserve 19 naval museums around the world and mark International Museum Day.
The Longest Night of Museums event will feature two days of packed live streams beginning on May 18th at 10 AM UTC / 6 AM EDT through May 19th at 3:30 AM UTC / 11:30 PM EDT. The event is free and all streams will be on the World of Warships Twitch channel.
World of Warships features hundreds of historically-accurate ships and Wargaming’s decision to collaborate with naval museums is a perfect pairing. The event originally began as a way to raise awareness of naval museums and to bring some attention and support to those museums, which can often be hidden gems.
In a release announcing this year’s big event, Wargaming’s Global Business Development and Communications Director, Marko Valentic, emphasizes that partnership, and how it is something that began as a way to help draw attention to museums during the pandemic and has now grown into a fan favorite.
“As the largest digital ship museum, World of Warships works closely alongside naval museums worldwide, both preserving and amplifying the historical legacy of these ships and the people who served on them. We’re excited to be joined by so many wonderful museums from around the globe and to celebrate International Museum Day with our community.”
Among the events on the stream are guided virtual tours of the partner museums, panels from the Historical Naval Ships Association and the United States Navy Institute. There will also be a documentary screening, “Surrender on the USS Missouri”, with a discussion with the film’s director,
