There’s been very little coverage of how the PS5 Pro is improving PSVR2, but we’ll have a lot more for you on that front in the coming days. In the meantime, we thought we’d share with you how a couple of major titles are leveraging Sony’s new hardware to improve their games.
First, it’s worth noting the platform holder’s proprietary AI-based upscaler PSSR is not available for PSVR2 just yet, so many of the improvements you see will be focused on the system’s improved GPU instead.
A new era begins
Update: Available now
Still, this makes for a profound boost to the image quality in No Man’s Sky.
In the game’s new update – available today – the release’s Dynamic Resolution Scaling range has been bumped from 1458p to 2160p, with foveated rendering increasing the “effective resolution by 300%”, according to UploadVR. In other words, the game looks sharper than ever on Sony’s headset with PS5 Pro.
The same is also true of the photorealistic Kayak VR: Mirage. Effectively, the aptly named Better Than Life has reduced the range of the game’s dynamic scaling, and increased all of the graphical effects. In addition, it’s using 8K textures as opposed to the 4K textures in the base game.
So we’re seeing some remarkable improvements from PSVR2 on PS5 Pro, then. Those of you who own the headset will know how important resolution can be in virtual reality, as a clearer image leads to a more realistic and immersive experience. We’ll have more in the coming days.
