Originally part of the publisher's Tokyo Game Show presentation, Koei Tecmo has released a full 4K version of its Dynasty Warriors: Origins gameplay showcase. The video is over 15 minutes long, and takes us through an entire castle siege.
On top of the heightened resolution, we've now got English subtitles — and so it's much easier to tell what's going on in terms of the mission's structure. As the title's unnamed protagonist, you're basically tasked with taking out key targets before your allies can storm the gates.
It's still very much a Dynasty Warriors game, but there's a clear emphasis on key battles between the player character and individual officers. What's more, you can issue specific commands to your soldiers in order to bring down bigger threats, like catapults and ballistas. It all looks rather involved.

And let's face it, it's hard not to be impressed by the sheer amount of carnage that's unfolding on screen at any one time. This is shaping up to be an impressive title on a technical level, and the best part is that performance appears to be buttery smooth.
Let's hope the finished game runs just as well on PS5 and PS5 Pro when it launches on the 17th January.

Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he's played 'em all. A little too much, some might say.
