Many fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 were expecting the game to launch on Xbox Game Pass; Larian has now confirmed that the game is worth the price it is set at and will not be coming to the subscription service.
Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, recently did an interview with IGN where the possibility of Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to GamePass was discussed. Vincke stated that the decision not to bring the game to the service was made before it was released, and that his opinion on the matter has not swayed. Larian's CEO stated (via IGN):
“We made a big game, so I think there's a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don't charge you any microtransactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for."
Vincke mentioned to IGN that this was a sensitive topic for him and that Larian Studios makes games that have a beginning, middle, and end, so in this regard, the game is well worth the price. Since Baldur's Gate 3 can take hundreds of hours to complete if you really take your time, players can indulge in plenty of content for the price they pay, according to the CEO.
ThoughBaldur’s Gate 3 is not heading to GamePass and will not be receiving a free-to-play demo, the game's success has not taken notice of this fact, and continues to be one of the most successful games to ever come to Steam, and even took home Game of the Year at this year’s 2023 Game Awards.
