The hotly anticipated physical edition of Baldur's Gate 3 will be four discs on Xbox. The first wave of the Baldur's Gate 3 Deluxe Edition was announced to start shipping sometime in the first quarter of 2024.
Since its full releasein August 2023, Baldur's Gate 3 has gone on to hit impressive milestones. In the months since its release, Baldur's Gate 3 has sold 10 million copies and boasts upwards of 600,000 players daily. Players have been excited to see a physical release of the game, which up until now has only been available in digital format.
Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, Michael Douse, has confirmed on Twitter that Xbox's physical edition of Baldur's Gate 3 will contain four discs. Xbox's physical copy of Baldur's Gate 3 was previously expected to span across only three discs. However, Baldur's Gate 3 proved to be slightly too big, going over the third disc's capacity by 500 MB. Faced with the prospect of cutting content from the game to make it fit, a fourth disc was added. Larian Studios is expected to update its item description for Xbox Deluxe Edition of Baldur's Gate 3 on its website soon.
Douse goes on to say that the addition of a fourth disc will likely see the Xbox Deluxe Edition's release for the award-winning Baldur's Gate 3 pushed back from the end of March to the beginning of April. This change won't affect Deluxe Edition shipments for PC or PS5. The PC version will be shipping first since it doesn't contain a physical copy of the game, only a CD key and installer.
The success of Baldur's Gate 3 has led to reports that Larian Studios may potentially be opening another studio in the near future. Larian Studios lent some validity to the rumors after urging industry professionals affected by layoffs and closures to apply to any position on its website,. As per the Baldur's Gate 3 developers, applications sent in now may be used to fill positions not yet posted, which will become available sometime in the future.
