Just Cause maker Avalanche Studios has shut down its offices in New York and Montreal.
The news was announced on the company's website, in a post saying that around 50 members of staff have been impacted by the decision. That's about nine per cent of Avalanche's total workforce around the world.
"This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it's necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company," Avalanche wrote.
"Our focus is now on supporting all Avalanchers through this challenging time. We're grateful for the invaluable contributions of those leaving and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players."
Avalanche opened its New York studio in 2011; meanwhile, the company only set up its developer in Montreal just eight months ago in October 2023 following its acquisition of Monster Closet in 2021.
