Apple could be making a surprise announcement this coming week, with a new rumor claiming that the company intends to unveil new iPad models. Unfortunately, it does not look like any of those announcements will include the new iPad Pro family, which is slated for a 2024 launch. Sadly, this means we are likely not going to see the new M3 in any of the new tablets.
The rumor claims that, in total, Apple will unveil three new iPad models this week, and according to sources that informed Supercharged, the technology giant is already in talks with media personnel surrounding the new unveilings. With the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models not expected to launch until 2024, the only ones remaining that have yet to receive a refresh are the new iPad Air, iPad mini 7, and the entry-level iPad.
Given that the iPad Air from last year featured an M1, it will not be surprising to see its successor get the M2, giving users slightly increased compute and graphics performance increase without spending extra money to get themselves one of the members from the ‘Pro’ tablet range. As for the iPad mini 7, it could be treated to the A16 Bionic, which is the same SoC found in the newly launched iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
It is unlikely that Apple will incorporate its cutting-edge 3nm A17 Pro into the smaller slate, especially when it is targeted to the budget-oriented customer. Also, this time, Apple might resolve the ‘jelly scrolling’ issue that haunts iPad mini 6 owners, which ends up making the display noticeably laggy and slow.
