AMD's next-generation Ryzen "Zen 5" CPUs could be launching as early as August with the first Mini PCs arriving a few months later.
Mini PC manufacturer, AOOSTAR, has recently been in the highlights as the company has spilled the beans on several upcoming products such as the Radeon RX 7650 XT mobile refresh GPU, & also revealed that the next-gen Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 5-core architecture are expected to arrive in August.
Now before you get all excited, the Mini PC manufacturer is likely referring to the AMD Strix "Zen 5" APUs as they make Mini PCs based on mobile chips and not desktop SKUs. With that said, we can expect the next-gen Ryzen Desktop CPUs featuring Zen 5 core architecture to arrive on AM5 socket platforms around the same time.
AOOSTAR states that the next-gen AMD Ryzen "Zen 5" CPUs are expected to launch in August while they are expecting to ship their first Mini PCs featuring the Strix lineup by October so early Q4 2024 which is when we can expect some nice and compact solutions powered by the latest chips. Now as for what AMD's Strix APUs bring to the table, they are expected to be a major upgrade in all regards with a brand new CPU core featuring the aforementioned Zen 5 cores, a brand new RDNA 3+ iGPU architecture, and the latest XDNA 2 AI NPU delivering 3x the TOPS of Hawk Point (~45 TOPS).
AMD's Strix APUs will come in two distinct flavors, a standard monolithic design with 12 CPU & 16 RDNA 3+ iGPU cores while the higher-end Strix Halo chips will feature a monolithic design with up to 16 cores and up to 40 RDNA 3+ iGPU cores. The latter aren't expected to be widely available until late 2024 or early 2025 so we can expect the first AMD Zen 5 Mini PCs to feature the monolithic Strix chips.
As for the desktop AMD Ryzen CPUs, they are indeed coming and we are
