Alan Wake 2 was one of the big winners at The Game Awards 2023, earning three awards (Best Art Direction, Best Game Direction, and Best Narrative), the most after Larian's Baldur's Gate 3.
The Finnish studio is, however, not at all resting on its laurels. They already confirmed a major new update scheduled to go live on all platforms on Monday, December 11, at 10 AM Pacific Time.
This new patch adds New Game Plus, allowing players to restart Alan Wake 2 and retain all weapons, Charms, and character upgrades earned during their first playthrough. Remedy noted that the unlocked weapons can be found in the first available shoebox for the character, so players won't immediately start their adventure with them in their inventory.
The firepower will be very useful for those who select the newly added Nightmare Difficulty level, which reportedly features 'intensified enemies' that require a strategic approach and provide an adrenaline-fueled gameplay experience.
Moreover, The Final Draft update adds a new ending to the layered story of Alan Wake 2, which Remedy believes will spark speculation and theories among the game's dedicated fans. There is also new lore to be found in the form of a few new videos and manuscript pages that have been added to the New Game Plus experience, along with other subtle additions.
The patch will also feature some bug fixes and minor performance optimizations. On that note, we recently interviewed Remedy's Lead Graphics Programmer Tatu Aalto to discuss the importance of Mesh Shaders and NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 integration in Alan Wake 2.
