Minecraft's practically infinite sandbox worlds were always made for the purpose of letting players go wild and create whatever they can imagine, with the spirit of creativity forming the game's foundation even before Minecraft's survival mechanics were introduced. While players have shared countless mind-blowing creations in the past and continue to do so to this day, the widespread love for the game itself has given rise to plenty of artwork from fans. While Minecraft has directly inspired plenty of similar sandbox games in the past, a work of fan art recently shared by the player known online as Hot_Comfortable_111 shows off what Minecraft may have looked like in a world where it took the form of a 2D side-scrolling game instead. This adorable yet incredibly detailed project features artwork of two different environments — the surface of the Overworld itself, and a large cave complete with a waterfall. The art style used by the artist to illustrate the environments and mobs in these images seems to share some similarities with some of the official 2D artwork often used to promote Minecraft's mob votes and the like.
