Earlier today, developer NetEase Games revealed Marvel Rivals, their take on the hero shooter genre that Overwatch popularized, but with actual heroes. Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man and many more classic superheroes will compete in 6v6 battles across a variety of maps, duking it out to stop Doctor Doom and his 2099 counterpart from taking over the multiverse. Your typical Marvel plotline.
While that's the general plot of the game, it also seems like a higher force will also play a major role in Marvel Rivals' story, as a short clip towards the end of the game's trailer featured what many thought was a gender-swapped Galactus. You can find a bunch of people all over social media absolutely dumbstruck by this seemingly new take on the character, but we're here to tell you that she's not actually Galactus at all.
Knowing that many people were going to think NetEase had turned Galactus into a woman, Twitter user ThorgisArcade tried to get ahead of the misconceptions by quickly explaining that this woman is actually Galacta, the daughter of Galactus, who had a very short run of comics back in 2010 aptly titled Galacta: Daughter of Galactus.
If you're like the rest of the Marvel community and have only now found out that Galactus has a daughter, you're now probably wondering exactly who he got down and dirty with to have a child in the first place. Distressingly, Galacta wasn't actually born through conventional means and just kind of grew inside Galactus himself by leeching off the cosmic power he consumes when munching on planets.
While that particular detail about Galacta is pretty gross, it's neat that Marvel Rivals is taking inspiration from lesser known characters. You've also got characters like Luna Snow, Magik, Peni Parker, and Namor on the official roster, so it's very clear there are a bunch of comic book nerds at NetEase. No matter what Marvel Rivals ends up performing like, at least it's being made with love.
