When it comes to iconic locations in the Kingdom Hearts series, you don't get much better than Traverse Town, other than perhaps Destiny Islands, Twilight Town, and maybe Hollow Bastion, if you're really pushing it. It marked the start of Sora's bafflingly complex journey all those years ago, and its exclusion from Kingdom Hearts 3 didn't sit right with a lot of fans.
Thankfully, we have a dedicated modders that is attempting to fix that wrong, by rebuilding Traverse Town from the ground up in Kingdom Hearts 3 to "as near of quality to official DLC as possible". This particular modder is called Caleb Moore, who worked with fellow modder Critic_Perfect to upload a video of their progress to YouTube earlier this month, which was shared on social media by The Gamers Joint.
You can check out the video above to see the mod in action, which has not only given Traverse Town a complete face-lift, but has also connected each of the districts, so you don't have to sit through loading screens like you had to in the original games. Everything you see in this video has been built from th ground up lovingly by Moore, though they explain that the plants have been lifted from Twilight Town, so that might be why you recognize some familiar greenery.
Moore also explains in the video's description that you'll be able to interact with Save Points and Moogle Shops, and can even find collectibles and try out a Dream Drop Distance-inspired diving minigame. You'll also be able to fight enemies, discover collectibles, and do pretty much everything you could do in the original Traverse Town in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
Unfortunately, this version of the mod isn't out just yet. Moore explains in a comment that they recently got a new full-time job and have been moving apartments, so progress has been slower than they'd have liked, but they do say that the mod's release is "upcoming" and that there will be even more updates in the future as well.
