Hades 2 — the highly anticipated sequel to a roguelike that Digital Trends considers to be one of the best games of all time — is out now.
Developer Supergiant Games surprise released the game at 10 a.m. PT on Monday following a positively received Technical Test in April. It costs $30, a price that Supergiant Games says it “may raise” in the future depending on the scope of content added between now and Hades 2′s full launch. As for how long that will take, the Steam page says that thegame will “be in Early Access development at least through the end of 2024.” Supergiant Games isn’t committing to a specific 1.0 launch date at this time.
As for the game itself, Hades 2 is a direct sequel to the 2020 hit that follows Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he repeatedly tries to escape the underworld to find his mom. Instead of Zagreus, this sequel follows Melinoë, the princess of the underworld, as she tries to stop the Titan of Time named Chronos. Supergiant Games claims that the early access version of Hades 2 “already has more environments, foes, and fully voiced characters than the full version of the original Hades game,” but that it still wants to build upon the experience over time with new areas, characters, enemies, narrative content, and gameplay systems.
Hades 2 is now available on PC in early access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. During its time in early access, Supergiant plans on using anonymous gameplay data collected from players, as well as feedback on Discord and Steam, in order to refine the game.
