Hades 2 has been taunting us with its "Coming Soon" release date on Steam for two years after being announced at The Game Awards in 2022. Out of nowhere, the wait is finally over as Supergiant Games just launched it into early access.
In our review, Lead Features Editor Jade King says that Hades 2 "already feels fully formed". She praises its in-depth combat, "sensational" pacing, diverse cast of characters, higher stakes, and memorable dialogue; "We could have yet another classic on our hands."
Much like the first game, Hades 2 launched into early access, but it won't stay there for long. Supergiant Games says that it might be ready for its full release as soon as next year and that it already has a major update planned for "later this year".
We don't know what this major update will entail, but Supergiant Games has talked about plans to implement an entirely new region to explore. The Crossroads--the game's new hub--is also being updated to implement more customisation and a new main weapon, likely the final one.
We expect to be in Early Access at least through the end of 2024. It's too early to say when our v1.0 launch will be until we have a good feel for Early Access development.
If you haven't played the first Hades yet, you can pick it up for £7.13 on Steam until May 13. Granted, you don't need to have played the first to try the sequel, but in Hades 2, each run will explain what happened to Zagreus at the end, so it'll definitely add to the experience having that knowledge. Either way, you can get stuck in and play both games right now.
Hades 2 is the sequel to Supergiant Games' smash-hit roguelike dungeon crawler. This time you'll play as Melinoë, Princess of the Underworld and Zagreus' sister, as she takes on the forces of the Titan of Time.
