Pokemon fans now know exactly where and when the 2024 Pokemon World Championships tournament will take place. Once a year, The Pokemon Company holds a special competition featuring Pokemon players from all around the world as they go head-to-head in the mainline Pokemon entries, the popular Pokemon Trading Card Game, and even spin-offs like Pokemon GO.
While most Pokemon World Championships are held in the United States or Canada, last year’s big event took place in Yokohama, Japan. In addition to the usual high-level competitive play of the franchise’s biggest titles, fans who attended got to witness special previews of then-upcoming content during the event’s closing ceremonies. This included a look at some of the additional Pokemon coming to Pokemon Unite at the time, as well as a preview for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC. At the very end, it was revealed that the 2024 Pokemon World Championships would return to Hawaii, the same state that the 2007, 2010, and 2012 events took place.
However, unlike these past Pokemon World Championships, which were held at the Hilton in Waikoloa Village, this year’s tournament will take place at the Hawai‘i Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. This was revealed in a new 2024 Pokemon World Championships trailer, which also confirmed that the event will be held from August 16 to August 18. A charming piece of promotional artwork was also shared to commemorate the news, featuring Pikachu and other popular Pokemon snorkeling inside a pair of diving goggles.
Just like last year’s Pokemon World Champions, the main attractions at the upcoming event will be competitive rounds of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and the Pokemon TCG, along with challenges in Pokemon GOand Pokemon Unite. Fans will also be able to shop for assorted Pokemon merchandise at the Pokemon Center, and the trailer features plenty of fun Pokemon mascots and side activities like Magikarp fishing.
