Ahead of its official global release tomorrow, an official Mortal Kombat 1 60FPS patch has been released, removing the 30FPS cap in certain parts of the game.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released in early access last week, and ahead of the reboot's worldwide release, modder 'ermaccer’ released a small patch that removes the 30FPS cap from fatalities, fatal blows, intro scenes, the main menu, and more.
While most parts of NetherRealm's Mortal Kombat reboot run in 60FPS like recent entries in the series, some in-game elements are capped at 30FPS. For instance, the main menu runs at 30FPS, and aside from the above-mentioned elements this also applies to customization. This unofficial patch removes that FPS cap. It should be noted that this patch has only been tested with the most recent Steam release of the game and due to the game using 30/60Hz assets, some elements might be broken during previously capped sections such as character faces or eyes. "While all fatal blows, fatalities, and intros will run at 60 fps, their animations seem to be recorded at 30 fps without interpolation", the modder explains. "This was also the case with some MK11 animations (Scorpion's fire turbine intro is 30 fps for example)."
The modder adds, "60 FPS might be implemented properly by QLOC/NRS in the near future, enjoy for now". We've included the key features of this unofficial Mortal Kombat 1 60FPS patch below as well as a video showcasing the patch in action:
