The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesand Daredevilhave a number of similarities stemming all the way back to the very first issue of TMNT in which Daredevil made an unofficial cameo. From TMNT’s Foot Clan being inspired by Daredevil’s the Hand, to the nature of ninja-style heroes rising from chemical exposure, TMNThas always paid its fair share of tributes to the Marvel Comics series. In one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ darkest storylines, fans learn that one of the Turtles' human allies is much more like Daredevil than they first realized.
In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles#48 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones is chasing a gang of street thugs through New York until they finally arrive at an empty park. During the ensuing fight, Casey accidentally kills one of the gang members, someone who turned out to be just a kid.

Casey’s storyline this issue is exactly like the one Daredevil would find himself in years later in DaredevilVol. 6 run by writer Chip Zdarsky. In Daredevil Vol. 6, Daredevil is getting back into the swing of things as a vigilante and decides to stop a couple of low-level robber thugs one night on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. In the process, Daredevil accidentally killed one of the robbers, just as Casey Jones did years earlier. Not only did the two heroes commit manslaughter while trying to enact vigilante justice, but they both felt terrible afterwards and each spent some time unsure of how to move forward and forgive themselves for what happened.
