As one of the most popular figures in both the pages of DC Comics and in global pop culture, Batman has spurred decades of fan debate, which writer Chip Zdarsky has parodied in a hilarious short comic. Batman's identity as a crimefighting billionaire has brought up questions relating to how he can best help his home of Gotham City. While Bruce Wayne's nighttime excursions as Gotham's Dark Knight have unquestionably helped alleviate some of society's ills, a vocal group of comics fans argue that he would accomplish way more by signing a check instead.
In his newsletter on Substack, writer Chip Zdarsky wrote and illustrated an amusing short comic, poking fun at how boring that story might be to read on the page. Having written a six issue Red Hood and Batman arc in Batman: Urban Legends, Zdarsky is currently writing a Batman prequel series called Batman: The Knight. Zdarsky's Substack comic parodies the iconic moment in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's Batman: Year One, where a young Bruce Wayne first gets the idea to become a bat-themed superhero after a bat flies through the window of his father's study. Instead of a bat breaking through the glass, an issue of The 'Good' Billionaire Cavalcade plops into Bruce's lap, its cover showing a «good» billionaire handing off «another million dollar check» for a social program. Bruce then says, «Yes, father… I shall become a boring comic!» before the next panel reveals Zdarsky holding All-Star Hot Bat-Takes and saying, «This... This is also a boring comic!»
