the Superdog will star in a series of short films following his DCU debut in 2025’s .
Directed by James Gunn, Superman will be released in United States theaters this coming July. David Corenswet is playing Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan is portraying Lois Lane. Clark’s superpowered dog Krypto will also have a sizable role in the film.
Per ComicBook, Gunn has announced that Krypto will star in a series of short films that will begin to be released following the debut of Superman.
The short films will begin releasing in the fall, with there being four of them in total. It’s unclear if Corenswet or any of the other Superman cast members will also be appearing in them.
“We’ve got these cool little Krypto shorts that are so fun, man. I’ve been watching all of them,” Gunn said. “He’s a terrible, terrible dog. It’s for families and it’s just really fun and goofy. It’s pretty cool.”
Peter Safran added, “It’s definitely the Krypto you fall in love with in Superman. He’s a terrible dog.”
Gunn previously said of Krypto’s role in Superman on Instagram, “Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic, to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, ‘Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog Month. Btw, Ozu today, is, fairly often, a very good boy.
Superman will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025, as part of the DCU’s first chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters.”
