A new The Witcher 3 mod that was released online this week further improves ray-traced global illumination in some clever ways.
The Cozy RTX Fires, which can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, makes fires bounce around the environments more than in the vanilla game, filling the dark gaps, and eliminating or reducing the point light effect for light sources placed in the environment. The mod features four different levels of bounce intensity, and it works with any other fire or lighting mod as well.
Ray Tracing support is among the new features of The Witcher 3 Next-Gen edition, which released at the end of 2022 on PC and current generation consoles. While the update had its fair share of issues at launch, as highlighted by Alessio in his piece, CD Projekt Red released multiple patches that addressed the most critical issues. One of the latest major updates addressed some NVIDIA DLSS 3.0 and ray tracing issues.
With everything turned on, the game looks absolutely fantastic. Granted, it had a great base to begin with, but the textures are clearly higher quality here (partly thanks to the integrated mods), and the draw distance is massively improved, just like the accuracy and sharpness of reflections and shadows. The star of the show is the ray-traced global illumination, though, which elevates the game's lighting to new heights.
The Witcher 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide.
