Hearthstone recently revealed Zilliax Deluxe 3000, a new Legendary that lets players build their own minion when they add it to their decks. This new customizable minion is 28 cards in one, and is the most ambitious single Hearthstone card in the game’s history.
Recently, Hearthstone revealed some big plans for the Year of the Pegasus, including a Core Set refresh and the new Whizbang’s Workshop expansion. 2024 marks Hearthstone’s 10-year anniversary, so Blizzard is focusing on callbacks to iconic characters and mechanics from the game’s history while simultaneously pushing the boundaries on what it has done before.
Zilliax Deluxe 3000 is a new neutral Legendary minion coming to Hearthstone in Whizbang’s Workshop. However, unlike most minions, Zilliax Deluxe 3000 does not have set stats, cost, or even keywords. Instead, when players add it to their decks, they are able to pick and choose two of eight different modules, which are combined to create the statistics and abilities of their Zilliax, allowing it to fit in any deck. Fans can even choose one of eight different pieces of artwork to use for their creation, meaning there are technically 224 permutations players can make with Zilliax Deluxe 3000.
Hearthstone senior game designer and initial design lead Cora Georgiou went into detail about the process of creating this card on her personal Twitter. Hearthstone devs come up with tons of cards, and given the toy shop theme of Whizbang’s Workshop, Hearthstone wanted to make a card that let players become designers as well. While fans have been able to do so to an extent with Kazakus, Ignis, and similar cards, Zilliax Deluxe 3000 took the sideboard technology from E.T.C., Band Manager to create Hearthstone’s most ambitious card yet.
