Capcom has confirmed the arrival of 's next playable fighter, and it's one of the series' most feared. has already amassed an impressive playable roster, with 21 characters available following the arrival of Ed in February 2024. Akuma — the younger brother of Ryu and Ken's master, Gouken — will now be coming to this spring.
The official X account announced the legendary character's arrival, stating that he will when he is added to the game. The post also shared the first look at 's version of the character, who much like other returning characters in the series, has had a slight redesign with his once-red mane now turned white, with director Takayuki Nakayama stating that the development team used Buddha statues and animals as references for his musculature.
Akuma had already been revealed on the X account with a New Year's Eve celebratory post, even though at the time, Ed was slated to be the next DLC character for the game.
Akuma will be unlocked for owners of 's Deluxe Edition, Ultimate Edition, or Year 1 Character Pass. As per the Capcom Highlights event on YouTube, when Akuma joins the line-up, he'll be available in the game's mode and is also encountered as a master in its mode. Players will also be able to become his student and embark on missions, and it'll be possible to visit his Gokuento stage — which was shown in his reveal trailer — in World Tour.
Accompanying Akuma's arrival, Nakayama also says to expect new "" and Battle Hub events as part of the update, which will officially mark the end of 's first year of content. Nakayama also stated that work on Year 2 is already underway and that fans will have plenty to look forward to.
Fans will be pleased to hear that the team behind the award-winning isn't planning on slowing down any time soon and that there's another year's worth of content incoming. In the meantime, adding a fan-favorite character like Akuma is certainly an impressive way to end the game's first year of content.
