Today, Bandai Namco announced SWORD ART ONLINE Fractured Daydream. Fans of the franchise know that the universe's lore is based on protagonists playing VR MMORPGs, but ironically, the games never allowed that.
SWORD ART ONLINE Fractured Daydream aims to be the closest thing yet. Bandai Namco described it as a large scale cooperative multiplayer battle action game featuring cooperative quests and raids for up to 20 players. The following modes will be included:
Boss Raid
Online exclusive mode where you join in as a part of a raid team consisting of 20 members divided into four five-member parties! How you prepare for the fight is the key to victory against the high difficulty raid boss!
Co-op Quest
Online exclusive mode where you join in as a part of a 20 person team! Divide into four parties of five and go clear separate maps, and join in the fight against the boss at the end!
SWORD ART ONLINE Fractured Daydream is set in an original story in an All-Star Game. A new system is applied to the world of Alfheim Online, but a malfunction causes all worlds and timelines to collide, creating a unique setting and challenging environment for Kirito and other players. All lost in uncharted territory, enemies become allies, departed characters are back and unlikely alliances will be formed to survive the dangers in this unsettled world.
The roster of over twenty playable characters comes from the first three seasons of the animated series and the SWORD ART ONLINE movies. A Closed Beta test will run from March 11 to 17, with pre-registration already available on the official website. The following characters are confirmed to be in the CBT:
The full version of SWORD ART ONLINE Fractured Daydream will be released later this year on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch.
