THQNordic have delved in to their vast back catalogue and picked the classic Epic Mikey as their next remake, and its coming to all consoles this time, not just Nintendo.
The original title was released in November 2010 and follows Mickey as he breaks in to a world of “forgotten things”, concept art and animations for cartoons that never made it to the screen. The levels are loosely a based on locations at the Disneyland theme park, and Mickey will be tormented by Shadow Blot, a creature he created but based on the Phantom Blot, an antagonist to Mickey his original comic strips.
They key feature of the game was the use of the Wii hardware to draw or erase objects from the platforming landscape. The current generation of consoles do not have motion controls so the gameplay will have to be amended to take this in to account, but as this is a full remake rather than simple graphical upgrade the development team should be able get a handle of that.
The title was directed by the legendary Warren Spector, producer of Wing Commander, Deus Ex, and System Shock.
This is the second piece of ‘Epic Disney’ news in recent days as they are also making an “entertainment universe”, created in partnership with Epic Games and “interoperating with Fortnite”.
“In addition to being a world-class games experience and interoperating with Fortnite, the new persistent universe will offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more,” explained Disney in a press release. “Players, gamers and fans will be able to create their own stories and experiences, express their fandom in a distinctly Disney way, and share content with each other in ways that they love. This will all be powered by Unreal Engine.”
