Bleecker Street has announced release date for its upcoming epic drama film, which will reunite Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche after 28 years since starring together in the acclaimed war drama The English Patient.
“It follows Odysseus (Fiennes) who washes up on the shores of Ithaca after 20 years away; haggard and unrecognizable,” reads the synopsis. “The King has returned from the Trojan War, but much has changed in his kingdom. His beloved wife Penelope (Binoche) is a prisoner in her own home, hounded by suitors vying to be king. Their son Telemachus faces death at the hands of these suitors, who see him as merely an obstacle to their pursuit of the kingdom. Odysseus has also changed—scarred by his experience of the Trojan war, he is no longer the mighty warrior from years past— but he must rediscover his strength to win back all he has lost.”
The Return is scheduled to make its debut on December 6, 2024 in theaters nationwide, which pits the film directly against the Amy Adams-led horror comedy Nightbitch. It will also debut in the same month as high-profile features, including Kraven the Hunter, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Nosferatu.
The film is directed and produced by Uberto Pasolini, who co-wrote the screenplay with John Collee and Edward Bond. Joining Fiennes and Binoche are Charlie Plummer, Marwan Kenzari, Claudio Santamaria, and Ángela Molina. In addition to leading the cast, Fiennes is also serving as an executive producer alongside Giorgos Karnavas, Torsten Poeck, Andrew Karpen, Kent Sanderson, Nicholas Sandler and Keith Kehoe. It is produced by James Clayton, Roberto Sessa and Konstantinos Kontovrakis.
