The Flash season 9 could reportedly end the series with a shorter number of episodes than past seasons. The Flash premiered on The CW in 2014 as a spinoff of the series Arrow focusing on forensic scientist Barry Allen and his friends as he protects Central City from various villains under the name The Flash. The series has been a consistent hit for the CW, for its mix of classic Silver Age comic book storytelling and melodrama, and has gained a passionate fanbase.
After almost a decade, The Flash has lost various stars with the recent announcement that long-time season regular Jesse L. Martin would leave the series following season 8 following other original series regulars Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh. Star Grant Gustin renegotiated to return for The Flash season 9, which would make The Flash the longest-running series in the Arrowverse beating out Arrow which ran for eight seasons. All signs seem to be pointing that The Flash season 9 will be the final one for the series, and a recent report may indicate the final season episode order will be the shortest yet.
