James Gunn, director of the critically-acclaimed The Suicide Squad, revealed his top three favorite television series. Gunn began his Hollywood career in the 1990s as a screenwriter for the independent black comedy, Tromeo and Juliet. After venturing into both comedy and horror with his scripts for the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo and the 2004 remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Gunn made his directorial debut with the cult horror film Slither, which combines both genres. The writer/director then turned to superheroes, both penning the script for and directing the award-winning Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
In 2008, Gunn joined Twitter, and has remained vocal on the platform ever since. In 2018, however, Disney removed the director from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after his past controversial tweets resurfaced. Gunn publicly accepted Disney's decision, and during this time, he joined the DCEU to make The Suicide Squad. Disney later re-hired Gunn to helm GOTG 3, which is expected to release in 2023. Despite returning to the MCU, however, the filmmaker continued writing for the DCEU in The Suicide Squad spinoff TV series, Peacemaker, for HBO Max.
