The skyrocketing success of Peacemaker has revealed filmmaker James Gunn as the ideal candidate to make a Justice League movie based upon the Justice League International or Super Buddies incarnations of DC Comics' premiere team. While many have joked about the possibility of James Gunn's Justice League becoming a reality, Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad both proved that Gunn can masterfully balance cosmic drama and high-energy super-heroics with the smaller, more character-focused scenes he also excels at writing. Additionally, a JLI movie would play to Gunn's desire to focus on DC Comics' more obscure characters, while still allowing Warner Bros. to push a new franchise with heavy name recognition.
With Peacemaker having higher scores on Rotten Tomatoes than earlier DCEU and Arrowverse productions and the series' season 1 finale showing a 44% increase in audience size relative to its premiere, James Gunn's star has never been higher. Gunn already had a dedicated fan following from his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His work for Warner Bros. has made him into one of Hollywood's hottest creators and given him a virtual blank check when it comes to choosing his future projects.

Gunn already has a packed schedule, filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and finishing post-production on a Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special.
