Despite his adoration for the franchise, James Gunn has said he isn't interested in adapting Rick and Morty into a live-action movie. Gunn, who is currently busy directing Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3, has more recently scored a successful run with hit DC show Peacemaker, a spinoff of his equally popular The Suicide Squad. Although Gunn's eyes are firmly set on his many superhero ventures, the director will also lend his producing credentials to Warner Bros. live-action/animated hybrid, Coyote vs Asme, where Gunn will again work with Peacemaker's John Cena.
Gunn's love for Rick and Morty is easy to understand. The show, which follows scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty as they traverse a bizarre multiverse, has established a passionate fanbase over the years, thanks to sharp writing and irreverent comedy stylings. The show has also set itself apart from other adult comedies, with episode-spanning storylines and much deeper lore when compared to its contemporaries. Rick and Morty season 5, in particular, ended with potentially game-changing revelations, leaving fans clamoring for more.

Replying to a Tweet from a fan asking if Gunn would consider a live-action adaption of the show, the director stated that he thinks "the animated series is just so beautiful & perfect" and he "would never touch it." Rounding out the Tweet, Gunn described the show as "One of the greatest TV shows ever." Check out the Tweet below:
