As Bethesda has partnered with AMD for its upcoming Starfield, the game is unlikely to support NVIDIA DLSS, but this may not be a problem for owners of RTX 4000 series cards, as a well-known modder promised to mod DLSS 3 support in the game soon after release.
As reported on the PC Gaming subreddit, modder PureDark, who modded DLSS 3 support in multiple games such as Elden Ring, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Skyrim, and Fallout 4, recently stated how they will manage to get at least DLSS 3 support added to the game during its early access period, adding DLSS 2 support as well down the line.
As most AMD-sponsored games released in the past few months, like the aforementioned Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, launched without NVIDIA DLSS support, the same is likely to happen with Starfield. The sponsorship was confirmed yesterday with a press release that only mentioned AMD FSR 2 support, so things aren't looking great for DLSS or Intel XeSS support, at least at launch.
Despite the potential lack of upscalers support, Starfield on PC promises to be on a whole other level, compared to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, as the game will only run at 30 frames per second on consoles. Those getting the PC version, however, will require an SSD to run the game and will not get a disc by purchasing its physical edition, only a download code.
Starfield launches on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S on September 6th, 2023 worldwide.
