Welp! Like many of us assumed, Starfield is no longer arriving in “Q1 or Q2” of 2023 as previously stated. Bethesda just dropped a video that shared the new release date: September 6, 2023. The good news is that it’s an actual, firm date! Bethesda boss Todd Howard himself showed up on the freshly minted “official launch date announcement” video posted on Bethesda’s YouTube channel to share the news.
Following an ominous collective of mostly narrative-focused footage and a “09/06/23” numerical confirmation, Howard appears and notes that he’s “so excited to tell us when Starfield is coming out this year.” Howard says that they’re “playing the game all the time,” and are taken aback at how large it is. Todd Howard gonna Todd Howard! What a hype man. And there’s more to hype, apparently, as a new “Direct” is coming for the game in a few months.
Howard confirms that a “Starfield Direct” (the exact term used) is arriving on June 11, 2023, which will provide a deep dive into the game’s universe right around E3. Most of the reactions to this news will probably be some form of “it’s about time,” which Howard acknowledges in the video, stating that “you’ve waited a long time to play something from us [Bethesda].”
Given how Fallout 76 turned out, taking a bit more time to get everything right is the smart decision.
