Starfield will be out on September 6th. After delays, countless memes, and wondering just when we’d get a release date for Bethesda’s first new IP in decades, now we know. Bethesda released a new teaser to announce the launch date, with Todd Howard also announcing a separate live stream in June all about the game.
The teaser itself is about a minute long, and it’s followed by an appearance by Todd Howard to tell us some more. “We are so excited to finally tell you when Starfield is coming out this year, “ he says, then reflects on the work the team has been doing to get to this point. “We have poured ourselves into this game and even I’m surprised how much we can pour–it is large .”
Last year, Starfield was delayed, along with the co-op shooter Redfall , into the “first half” of 2023. The game is missing that window by just a little bit, but the release date looks pretty solid this time around.
Speculation rose as to whether there might be more delays incoming when Microsoft announced its most recent Xbox and Bethesda Showcase and made it clear that there would be nothing on Starfall . In fact, they said that there would be a later, separate showcase for the game, to give it the time and attention it deserved to properly show it off.
That event, a Starfield Direct, is now set for June 11th. Howard acknowledges that it has been a long time since people have played something completelynew from Bethesda, so this Direct is set to be a deep dive into the game and into the studio.
