NEW YORK—After showing off its first electric pickup truck at CES earlier this year, Ram teased more details here at the New York International Auto Show, including the option of getting a version with up to 500 miles of range. Here's what we know about the Ram 1500 REV.
The 1500 REV is a 2025 model, though Ram says it will be available starting in Q4 2024.
At that point, its competition will be relatively established. The Ford F-150 Lightning will have been out for three years, and if competitors stick to their announced release schedules, the 2024 Chevy Silverado and Tesla Cybertruck should be on the roads. "We've been chastised a bit for not being first to market, but we don't just want to follow the other guys," Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. told PCMag at CES. "We want to kind of chart our own course." He said the brand has studied its rivals and the Ram 1500 REV "pushes past the competition in areas customers care about most including range, towing, payload, and charge time.”
The 1500 Rev will come with two battery-pack options. The standard 168kWh pack will get up to 350 miles of range. A larger, 229kWh pack will achieve an "unsurpassed 500 miles" of range, RAM says. At an undisclosed date in the future, Ram will offer a third option, the 1500 REV XR, with "class-shattering range."
For comparison, a Rivian R1T max pack goes 400 miles on a single charge—with a $16,000 upgrade. Ram hasn't revealed how much the max pack option will cost, but it can't be cheap. Also, with such a large battery pack, the vehicle likely weighs about 7,000 pounds or more.
The vehicle will have Stellantis' new STLA Frame battery architecture with a
