It appears that Sony may have finally stopped sending automated purchase confirmation emails each time a player claims a PS Plus game.
For years now players have been receiving an email titled “Thank you for your purchase” every time they claim one of their monthly ‘free’ PS Plus games (now known as PS Plus Essential).
The wording of the emails regularly confuses and worries players, because it implies that they spent money on the game, rather than simply claiming it as part of their subscription.
Since not everyone checks their emails frequently, some get the message later in the day or week, forget they claimed their PS Plus games, and worry that their account has been hacked or is buying games they didn’t want.
However, as spotted by PlayStation LifeStyle, a number of Reddit threads have started to appear from players suggesting the practice may have finally stopped.
One thread reads: “So each month after I added the monthly Essential games to my library and downloaded them I checked my email afterwards and got a ‘Thank you for your purchase’ email for each of those games ‘purchased’, except I didn’t get any email like that this month after claiming Sackboy and the other two.
“I know it’s a silly question but I found it odd so I just wanted to check if it happened to anyone else?”
Another reads: “I receive dozens and dozens of these emails for every single free DLC I download, while for the latest games (this month’s Essential) I haven’t received any emails. Tried to download a game from PS Plus Extra and nothing. It’s normal? Maybe Sony doesn’t send mail anymore?”
