Bethesda has announced the Starfield release date, the hotly anticipated sci-fi RPG now set to launch across Xbox Series X|S and PC on 9th September 2023. It will naturally be in Xbox Game Pass on day one.
The first half of the trailer has some big 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes, before switching to Todd Howard to talk about the new launch date and Bethesda’s continuing efforts in developing the game.
A Starfield Direct stream will be held on 11th June 2023 right in that E3 2023 window– this is quite a bit later than was expected after previous leaks, speculation and announcements. In fairness, the game is also coming out later than expected, with prior leaks pointing to a first half 2023 release.
Starfield is easily one of the biggest Xbox Series X|S games on the horizon, and was previously announced for and expected to release in late 2022. However, in a tough break for Microsoft’s efforts to match the early momentum of PlayStation 5, Bethesda delayed both Starfield and vampire shooter Redfall from 2022.
The June Starfield Direct will be almost exactly one year on from the first Starfield gameplay reveal at not-E3 last year.
That showcased everything from the galactic political balance between the Constellation faction that you join, to the hunt for artefacts that have been scattered across the galaxy – you’ll be able to customise and fly your ship to land on over 100 planets in the game – and how you can customise your character and build your own outposts, just like in Fallout 4. The combat also looked pretty darn good, with an emphasis on first person blasting and using a jet pack to get around.
