Despite Black Adam appearing in the DC Universe in his own film, the recently released didn’t see Dwayne Johnson’s character in any capacity. According to director David F. Sandberg, he isn’t too mad about it but knows they probably left some profits on the table as a result.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg was asked if he was upset that Black Adam didn’t get to make a cameo in the film. Despite Johnson’s inclusion in the DC Universe, and Black Adam serving as the main villain for Shazam, Sandberg wasn’t too disappointed about the exclusion.
According to Sandberg, having Black Adam in the film would be too similar to what happened in the first film, and although it makes sense to have them fight and was “money left on the table,” he wasn’t too mad.
“No, not really. The thing about Black Adam is that he has the same powers as Shazam, and we did that in the first movie where we gave Sivana [Mark Strong] the same power,” said Sandberg. “So I don’t think the fight itself would’ve been super interesting, but I do think it’s a missed opportunity. What makes the most sense is to have them fight each other, so it’s money left on the table. But it’s how it is.”
is directed by David F. Sandberg () from a screenplay written by scribe Henry Gayden. It is produced by Peter Safran. The film is now available in theaters.
