With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth right around the corner, you would likely assume the Square Enix sequel to be dominating the pre-order charts found on Sony's own PS Store. However, for roughly a week now, this hasn't actually been the case. Ever since the confirmation of the PS5, PS4 Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, the RPG follow-up has had to fend off stiff competition to claim top spot from two re-released PS2 classics.
Up until this morning, the Star Wars Battlefront bundle was actually tracking higher than both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree in the UK under the default «Bestselling» filter. In the USA, it is the third most popular pre-order behind both of the aforementioned titles.

Since the multiple versions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — one of which has a great deal expiring tomorrow night — have been up for pre-order significantly longer than the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, it's almost certainly sold more digital copies. However, the excitement for the returning multiplayer classics has seen it shoot up the pre-order charts, and that makes for impressive reading.
For those who missed the announcement during last week's Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection brings back both PS2 games in their original forms, complete with online multiplayer functionality. If you've got PS Plus, you can get a 10 per cent discount on a pre-order, which drops the price to £26.09 / $31.49. It's out for PS5, PS4 on 14th March 2024.
