Spyro Reignited Trilogy, the brilliant remake of the PS1 platformers, has just passed the 10 million sales milestone. Activision has reported the game has now sold through this figure across all platforms, of course including PS4.
The news comes just before the series as a whole celebrates its 25th anniversary. The original Spyro the Dragon first released in North America on 9th September, 1998, meaning the little purple flamethrower turns 25 in just a few days' time.
«Originally developed by Insomniac and published by Sony, the beloved platformer first debuted in September 1998 on PlayStation to critical acclaim,» Activision recalls in a statement. «Fans quickly adopted the purple dragon as a new mascot worthy of Crash Bandicoot’s status, and a video game icon was born.»
The press release ends with links to Spyro social accounts in order to «keep up» with 25th anniversary celebrations. It'll be nice to see the character get some time in the spotlight. Of course, fans have been hoping for a brand new game in the same vein as Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, and with the remake trilogy selling very well, we wouldn't be surprised to see it happen sooner or later. Unfortunately there's no evidence suggesting it's happening, but we can hope.
