It's that time once again, everyone: another cult hit PC indie game is making its way to consoles. PlateUp! is its name, developed by It's Happening and published by Yogscast Games, and it looks sort of like a cross between Overcooked and Diner Dash.
As you can see in the trailer above, this curious title has you running a restaurant, either alone or with some friends in co-op. You need to not only cook requested dishes, but also serve them to customers in a timely fashion, keep the restaurant clean, and expand it over time to meet the needs of the business. It's a roguelite, meaning each run contains randomised elements like kitchen and restaurant upgrades, but there's some permanent progression too.
While it looks quite basic on the face of it, the game has been very well received on PC; it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, and it's very popular on YouTube and Twitch. To us, it seems to have a lot of moving parts for players to manage, so if you're looking for a game with even more potential for chaos than Overcooked, this could be worth a try.
It's coming to PS5 and PS4 on 2nd November, 2023, with a physical edition following shortly afterwards. Are you interested in this one? Will you be picking up PlateUp! to play with pals? Let us know in the comments section below.
Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
Looks tasty! I enjoyed both Overcooked and Diner Dash with the Mrs, so will see if she fancies co-op on this too.
