Spider-Man 2 creative director, Bryan Intihar has confirmed that Insomniac‘s Spider-Man games take place in the same universe as its upcoming Wolverine game.
Speaking on Kinda Funny Games, Intihar said, “they’re all 1048.” when asked by host Greg Miller if the upcoming Wolverine game and the current Spider-Man titles exist in the same version of the Marvel universe.
1048 refers to the revision of the Marvel universe that they share.

When then asked why Wolverine didn’t appear in a cameo in the game, or as a reference, Intihar said:
“There was a decision not to do it… I think for us, we wanted to let that team cook, and who knows what the future holds, but right now let’s let them do their thing.”
The Wolverine game was announced during a PlayStation Showcase event in September 2021, as was Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, at which point it claimed the title was in “very early development”.
The game will be a standalone title directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who were the creative leads on Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Announcing the Wolverine game, Insomniac’s head of franchise strategy and studio relations Ryan Schneider said: “In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit.
“Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay, the team is already creating something truly special.”
