Sony is ready to enter the Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant market, according to a new patent filed by the technology giant. While AI assistants have almost become synonymous with ChatGTP recently, Sony’s new onboarding assistant won’t follow the exact same model as the most famous invention of last year.
The move is not surprising to anyone following technology news during the last year. In 2022, OpenAI exploded in popularity by launching two of the most popular AI programs ever: Dall-E and ChatGTP. While the first one helped users create images by using prompts, the groundbreaking chatbot could talk to users, and generate text, and it has been used in several creative ways so far. ChatGTP has been very popular with several modding communities. For example, a Skyrim player used it to generate new quests for the title recently.

Sony has recently filed a patent for a new “AI onboarding assistant." According to the document, this new virtual assistant would be used on entertainment devices (such as video game consoles) and employ user data to give the user new recommendations. In short, the new bot would read the user data, learn from it and recommend products and features that they may like, not too unlike current algorithms. So, it’s safe to believe that the new invention will work in a vastly different way than ChatGTP.
This is not the first time that Sony’s plans to use AI are discovered via patent filings. Last month, the company filed a patent for an AI device that would recommend music in games. While the project was not too clear on its possible uses, it could be used to play audio based on labeled information gathered by the company
