A is in the works from Paramount Pictures, according to a recent report from Variety.
With the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 coming up, Variety notes that a fourth film is in the works, and although nothing is known about the project as of now, the film is targeting a spring 2027 release date. Jeff Fowler has directed all three movies in the franchise, but it’s unclear whether or not he or any of the starring cast will be up for a return.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stars Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, and Keanu Reeves, many of whom reprise their roles from the first two films. The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in 2020, with a sequel following it in 2022.
To date, the Sonic movie franchise has been a massive success for Paramount, earning more than $700 million at the global box office between just the first two films alone. The third film is projected to do equally well and is estimated to earn $55-60 million at the box office when it opens.
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Ben Schwartz‘s titular speedster will officially be getting a new formidable rival in the form of Shadow the Hedgehog, who is being voiced by John Wick star Keanu Reeves. Before Reeves’ casting was confirmed, fans were previously speculating that Star Wars vet Hayden Christensen might voice the fan-favorite character.
“Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before,” reads the official synopsis. “With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.”
