I’ve lost count of the number of times the release of Cassette Beasts got delayed. But finally, it has landed on Android globally. Developed by Bytten Studio and published by Raw Fury, it’s on mobile after two years of its launch on PC.
Now that it’s here, let me give you a quick intro to the game. I’m sure you’ve heard of cassettes, the ancient things your parents used to listen to music back in the day. If not, may be google it once.
You wake up stranded on a weird little island called New Wirral, where nothing feels like it belongs in this century or this world. There are monsters running amok, people casually turning into creatures to battle said monsters and the entire place runs on cassette tapes.
Your goal in Cassette Beasts is to survive on the island and figure out how to get back home. To do that, you’ll need to grab your cassette player and start recording monsters. You record them, then play them back to become them.
Build strong connections with the locals in Harbourtown, and you can fuse monster forms with your partner to create ridiculously cool hybrids. Any two monsters can fuse, so the combinations are basically endless.
New Wirral is filled with dungeons, puzzles and hidden spots you’ll only reach if you get the right monster abilities. Glide across cliffs, swim through mysterious waters, climb impossible walls and maybe even turn magnetic.
The combat system is turn-based, and there’s a whole elemental chemistry thing going on. Combine the right types, and you can mess with your enemies, boost your team or even change an opponent’s elemental type mid-battle.
The game supports a Bluetooth controller, and while it mostly works, you might face a few hiccups. It is free to play, so if you want to give it a try, grab it from theGoogle Play Store.
