Paramount Pictures has announced that its Sonic the Hedgehog movie series has now surpassed a total of $1 billion at the global box office.
The third film in the franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, recently hit cinemas, where it's enjoyed a successful run and positive reviews.
Paramount made the announcement of the milestone on its socials:
It's an impressive achievement; all three movies have been very popular, appealing to kids as well as nostalgic SEGA adults.
News of a fourth film being greenlit recently makes complete sense, then, with work underway and targeting a release in 2027.
Additionally, Jim Carrey has said that he's open to the idea of reprising his role as Dr. Robotnik in future flicks.
Ben Schwartz, who provides the voice for Sonic in the films, has reacted to the news, teasing there's «so much more to go»:
