Microsoft has reported that its Xbox division saw a seven per cent decrease in revenue for the three months ending December 31st.
That's according to the company's financial report for the period, which notes that its games arm saw a $530 million dip in revenue. Xbox content and services – i.e. games and subscriptions – revenue rose by two per cent, which Microsoft said is driven by its Game Pass service. The company added that this was ahead of ahead of its expectations for content from Activision and Blizzard, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
This, however, was not enough to offset the 29 per cent decline in hardware revenue.
Speaking to investors, CEO Satya Nadella noted that over four million people have played the recently-released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, while gamers played 140 million hours of content via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Furthermore, Game Pass saw its PC subscriber numbers increase by 30 per cent, likely driven by Call of Duty Black Ops 6. The subscription service also set a new record for revenue for a quarter.
