While rumours about World of Warcraft coming to Game Pass have been going around since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has released a statement that definitively confirm that the rumours are not true.
“This was a mistake on our end. Sorry for the confusion! Blizzard’s World of Warcraft was accidentally included in a Game Pass email even though it’s not available with the service – a correction email will be sent to those who got the original email soon,” said Microsoft in its statement through a post on social media platform X.
The mistake mentioned by Microsoft in its statement refers to an advertising email that was sent out to Game Pass subscribers, which included World of Warcraft as one of the Activision Blizzard titles on the subscription service. The email also included a graphic of World of Warcraft‘s Plunderstorm mode that indicated that it would be available on PC as well as console.
“Play Call of Duty, Diablo IV, World of Warcraft, and more of Activision’s biggest hits with Game Pass,” read the promotional email. It is worth noting that, alongside requiring a monthly subscription to play, World of Warcraft is also exclusively available on PC through Blizzard’s own Battle.net launcher.
While it is currently in the midst of its The War Within expansion, World of Warcraft recently kicked off its second season, which brought with it a host of content, including new dungeons, a new raid, as well as an entirely new zone with its own storyline and related content.
On the Classic side of things, World of Warcraft is gearing up to launch Mists of Pandaria Classic in Summer 2025. The expansion will allow players to re-experience (or freshly experience if they weren’t around for the original launch) what Mists of Pandaria was like back when it first came out back in 2012. It’s currently in the mist of Cataclysm Classic, with the final bits of content being released in the coming months.
