The Monkey: Stephen King Praises ‘Bats— Insane’ Movie by Osgood Perkins
Iconic horror writer has shared his review of Neon’s upcoming movie based on King’s 1980 horror short story of the same name. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 21, 2025.
In a recent Thread post, King praised The Monkey for its next-level craziness, teasing it as something he has never seen before. The adaptation hails from Longlegs filmmaker Osgood Perkins.
“You’ve never seen anything like THE MONKEY. It’s batshit insane. As someone who has indulged in batshittery from time to time, I say that with admiration,” King wrote.
The film is written and directed by Perkins. The ensemble cast includes Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. It is produced by James Wan, Michael Clear, Jason Cloth, and Dave Caplan. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Chris Ferguson, Peter Luo, Nancy Xu, and John Friedberg serve as executive producers. It hails from Atomic Monster, Stars Collective, and Black Bear, with C2 Motion Picture Group financing the project.
“When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them,” reads the official synopsis. “The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.”
