Sonic 3's producer, Toby Ascher, has confirmed that the movie will "take a lot" from Sonic Adventure 2, something that has been hinted at several times since it was announced.
Ever since the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the movie that is, not the game) confirmed that Shadow would be a key part of the third film in the trilogy, it's widely been assumed that a lot of inspiration was going to be taken from Sonic Adventure 2, which is the game that Shadow originally debuted in.
Since then, we've had lots of evidence that was going to be the case, from Crush 40's Live and Learn being confirmed to be in the movie at some point, to its logo literally being a recreation of the one seen in Sonic Adventure 2. If you somehow needed even more evidence that Sonic 3 is very Adventure 2-coded, then that's exactly what we just got.
As reported by GamesRadar+, Sonic 3 producer, Toby Ascher, confirmed in an interview about the upcoming Knuckles show that Sonic 3 will "take a lot from Sonic Adventure 2. During the interview, Ascher says that Sonic 3 is one of the most exciting things that the team has done with the franchise yet and points out that it "obviously" takes a lot from SA2.
Of course, anyone who has played a Sonic game before will have realised that Sonic 3 is going to take a lot from Sonic Adventure 2 just from Shadow even being in the movie, but it does raise some interesting questions about what else is going to be in the movie that's inspired by the game.
"It’s going to be this giant, fun, incredible movie that obviously takes a lot from Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the games that I know the core Sonic Team grew up loving."
